Are you planning to employ EU citizens after 1 January 2021?

Secure a Sponsor License for your business today.

The UK exited the EU on 31 January 2020. As a result, from 1 January 2021, EU citizens will not be able to come to the UK to work for UK companies without government authorisation. This means that UK businesses will not be able to hire nationals of EU countries unless the company is registered as a Licensed Sponsor.

Start preparing your business for 2021. By securing a Sponsor License early, you will allow your company to maximise the business benefits of being able to easily hire international talent.

UK Sponsor License: quick facts

Being registered as a Licensed Sponsor currently allows you to employ skilled talent from outside the European Economic Area. From 1 January 2021, you will need the same license to employ any newly hired staff from inside the EEA.

The Sponsor License comes with a set of duties and compliance requirements, such as diligent record keeping and making sure you inform the Home Office of major changes to the status of your sponsored employees.

The Home Office application fees are currently set at £536 for small business and charities and £1,476 for medium and large companies.

Standard application processing times are currently between 4 to 8 weeks. Proper preparation ensures that your application is not needlessly delayed. Please be aware that the Home Office may take longer to process any given application for reasons beyond our control.

The Sponsor License, once granted, allows you to issue Certificates of Sponsorship — official documents that enable your international candidates to apply for their work visa and come to the UK to join your team.

According to the Home Office, from 1 January 2021, EU and non-EU nationals will have equal status with regards to their right to work in the UK. This means that UK businesses will need to have a Sponsor License in order to hire both EU and non-EU nationals after that date.
